David Loertscher and Carol Koechlin: Creating a School Library Commons- April 25 - 4:00 - 6:00 (MDT)

In this age of information overload and social networking there is just too much to know according to Internet expert David Weinberger and “the smartest person in the room is the room”. Old ideas about knowledge building and creation no longer work in a networked world. In our webinar we will apply this concept to preparing our students for learning now and in the future. Learning in shifting landscapes is the new reality and the Learning Commons offers creative solutions and new opportunities for excellence. Schools need to cultivate a new culture of learning, where students and teachers are partners in the process of preparing for work and play in a world of constant change.

The Learning Commons is building momentum right across North America. Come join David Loertscher and Carol Koechlin as they share their thoughts regarding creative transformations to a Learning Commons, a school wide approach focusing on:

·         teaching and learning in physical and virtual aspects

·         implications of a well designed technological infrastructure

·         a school wide approach to sustainable improvement

 Imagine the possibilities!

Kathy Schrock: Connecting Your Classroom to the Future: Predictions and Predicaments - May 9 - 4:00 - 6:00 (MDT)

The ever evolving world of technology has provided many opportunities for students to learn in different ways. However, educators need to ensure that these tools are embedded meaningfully as they design curriculum in order to capitalize on the benefits that technology can bring to the learning process and improvement to student engagement. Furthermore, as classrooms and schools become more connected to digital environments, what strategies need to be in place to ensure the safety of our students as well as our networks? Kathy Schrock will help us to examine technological predictions and predicaments that have informed the direction of current instruction, and ponder a few questions about teaching for the future.

Join us in welcoming Kathy Schrock who has been an avid user of the internet since 1993 and a strong advocate of technology and education. Visit her website at http://school.discoveryeducation.com/schrockguide/
